WHAt you need to know:
ATOMS
-Define the term ‘atom’
-Understand the structure of an atom and explain the differences between the three sub‐atomic particles
- Explain what an atoms atomic mass number and atomic number mean
- Draw the electron arrangement for atoms of the first 20 elements
- Determine the structure of an atom based on data from the periodic table
- Draw a Bohr (electron shell) model of an atom
ELEMENTS, IONS AND COMPOUNDS
-Name the first 20 elements and their symbols of the periodic table
-Explain the differences between an element, compound and mixture
- Calculate the number of each type of atoms in different compounds
-Explain how ions form
CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL REACTIONS
-Explain the differences between a chemical and physical change
-Write word equations from chemical reactions
-Be able to balance symbol chemical equations
-Explain where an atom is found on the periodic table relates to how violent it reacts
-Explain how acid reacting with metals and metal carbonates form chemical reactions, and explain how they are tested
